I will be using the same books in both of the Ancient Western Civilization classes that I am teaching this Fall. I tried to find books that were comprehensive, informative, and interesting. I hope that those of you who are taking my classes agree. I have shared the texts below in the event that you want to do some reading before class starts (as well as some comparative pricing).
Remember, the Lifeway college bookstore gives a 20% student discount on most books. Here are some online prices;
We are on our way to Austin where my wife and I will be blogging the Defending the American Dream Texas Summit. It is being sponsored by some great organizations; Americans For Prosperity, The Sam Adams Alliance, RightOnline, etc.. And, there are some great speakers scheduled; Michael Steele, Grover Norquist, John Fund, Bob Barr, Michelle Malkin, etc. Come on back to the blog over the next few days as I share my thoughts on the experience. Or, go on over to Susan’s blog and get some more well thought out reflections on the event.
For the last few days I have had my foot propped up with ice on it. At first it was because my foot looked like a pumpkin being suckled by five little yellow squash. The swelling went down so that my toes looked more like carrots than squash. And now the swelling is almost gone entirely and the only problem that I have is that my foot feels like it is fully immersed in red hot coals. Yes, I have had a recurrence of Gout. Gout may be known as the king’s disease but the only thing royal about this is that I feel royally pained.
I ordinarily watch my diet pretty carefully, avoiding too many meats. But over the Memorial Day weekend there was lots of grilling and lots of meat; steak, hamburger, chicken, hotdogs… All those things I am supposed to eat in moderation to avoid a very, very painful flare up of gout. So, while I need a diet plan to help me lose weight, I also need one that is very specific to help me avoid those foods which are not good for someone with Gout. So, which diet plan is for me?

I recently posted about the seminary level training made available by Third Millenium Ministries. There are now some great resources available online for anyone who wants to pursue a more in depth knowledge of the Bible. There is a great list of online resources that can be found HERE. The list is annotated so you can sort through and find the audio downloads for which you have the most interest.
