Hard Wood Floors

Tonight I was out in the front yard fixing Parker’s bicycle chain when a man I had never seen walked up and began talking. He and his family have made an offer on a house across the street that has been foreclosed on. He shared that they had made a really, really low offer and are hoping to get a good deal. Not only is the house priced low in a buyer’s market but the owner’s had put in some really nice features, specifically hard wood floors.

I have never been in the house, but when he spoke of hard wood floors my mind immediately went to thoughts of high quality heart pine floors. For a second it was Spring and I was a child sitting playing in the early morning watching the sun radiate through the windows and bring to life beautiful antique honey heart pine floors. I had never thought about my childhood having been different because I grew up on hard wood floors than it would have been had I grown up on carpet. However, the scene that my brain conjured up made me think about the small details that are shaping my own children’s experience.
