Compare Al Gore’s Speech With His Lifestyle

If you have not yet seen the video put together by Americans For Prosperity from yesterday’s global warming speech by Al Gore, it is definitely worth a look. I don’t mind folk having social convictions that differ from mine, but the kind of blatant hypocrisy displayed by Al Gore with his energy devouring mansion, carbon emitting private jet, and his gas guzzling limos is utterly galling.

Robert Novak - Defending The American Dream Summit

This evening Robert Novak spoke during our dinner at the Defending the American Dream Summit. Yes, I know what some of you are thinking who routinely read my blog. It has not been long since I said of Novak that as he has aged (he is 76) he has gradually stopped doing research and reporting and instead has become a gossip columnist. (And, yes I made a similar claim about the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund who will be speaking to us tomorrow.) But, let me tell you, Novak’s speech this evening and the Q&A session afterwards were both insightful and interesting.

Novak’s speech was built around two points; (1) that Barack Obama is not as strong a candidate as some have given him credit, and (2) that this election matters.

Novak cited numerous data points which have historically been negative indicators that an incumbent party can retain the White House; an unpopular President, engagement in war, a third term for the same party, etc. The Republican party is not just fighting against one or a few of these negative circumstances but a whole plethora of them, yet (more…)

A Metaphorical Rear View Mirror

There is a great line in the movie Cars, where Mater the tow truck is showing the rookie race car Lightning McQueen how to drive backwards. McQueen is impressed and asks, “How do you do it?” Mater responds, “I don’t have to know where I’m going I just have to know where I’ve been, I use my rear view mirrors.”

Need to know where your car has been? Footloose teenagers, errant parking valet, disappearing delivery drivers — there are lots of reasons why you might need to know where your car has been. And, now there is a way to find out that is both reasonably priced and easy to initiate and install.

We’re Headed To Austin

We are on our way to Austin where my wife and I will be blogging the Defending the American Dream Texas Summit. It is being sponsored by some great organizations; Americans For Prosperity, The Sam Adams Alliance, RightOnline, etc.. And, there are some great speakers scheduled; Michael Steele, Grover Norquist, John Fund, Bob Barr, Michelle Malkin, etc. Come on back to the blog over the next few days as I share my thoughts on the experience. Films From The 80’s

Tonight my family watched The Princess Bride and all six of us loved it, two years old through forty-six. Smarmy, geeky, silly movies from 1980’s. You gotta love them. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, The Empire Strikes Back, The Karate Kid, The Last Starfighter, . . . and of course War Games.

Good news for movie lovers –the original WarGames will be back at the movie theaters next week. Seriously. WarGames will mark its 25th anniversary (man I feel old) by playing for one night only in select theaters nationwide on Thursday, July 24th. The showing will include never-before-seen interviews with the film’s creators, the cast (including ~~Ferris Bueller~~ ~~Professor Gadget~~ Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy), and crew. The July 24th celebration and reprise will also include a sneak peek at the making of the sequel – WarGames: The Dead Code.

I know where I will be next Thursday.

Texas Loves Its Chairman of the Railroad Commission

I am impressed with everything I have seen about Michael Williams who is running for re-election to the position of Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission. God, family, country. The respect that he shows for them combined with real leadership skills and a commitment to make tomorrow better than today makes him someone we are blessed to have serving us in Texas. Evidently, I am just one of many who like what he has done and his vision for the future. Check out the press release below to see what I mean.

MICHAEL WILLIAMS CAMPAIGN
FUNDRAISING TOTALS TOP $1.3 MILLION

AUSTIN – Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams’ campaign today announced they have raised more than $1.3 million in his bid for reelection.

The latest report to the Texas Ethics Commission will show Williams raised $624,480.77 for the reporting period covering January to June of 2008. As of July 15, Williams maintains over $800,000 on-hand. Of those totals, Williams has raised $67,286 online.

“Chairman Williams is working hard bringing his pro-growth, environmentally conscious energy solutions to the people of Texas and they are responding,” said Corbin Casteel, Williams Campaign Manager, who noted that nearly 70% of Williams’ donors work outside the energy industry as evidence of Williams’ broad base of support. Family Illness, Salmonella, & Hot Peppers

My whole family became sick last week after eating Mexican food. I can’t help but wonder if it wasn’t tied to the recent salmonella outbreak which has now sickened more than 1,000 people. Adding to the confusion, the government is warning certain people to avoid types of hot peppers.

New Denomination - Church of the Legos

In the beginning was the Legos. The Reverend Stuart Dornfeld built a lego model of his Emanuel Lutheran church out of Legos. More than 12,000 of the plastic blocks and 72 hours of work went into the mini-version of the Brandon, Wisconsin, house of worship.
