Death - What is on the other side?
I was away last week for my mother’s funeral so my work email has stacked up a bit. While sorting through my email and trying to clean out some old stuff I came across the following story which someone had sent to me some time ago. It made me think of the beautiful passage of comfort found in John 14 so I share it with you here.
~DEATH~
A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to
Leave the examination room and said,
‘Doctor, I am afraid to die.
Tell me what lies on the other side.’
Very quietly, the doctor said, ‘I don’t know.’
‘You don’t know? You, a Christian man,
Do not know what is on the other side?’
The doctor was holding the handle of the door;
On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,
And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
‘Did you notice my dog?
He’s never been in this room before.
He didn’t know what was inside.
He knew nothing except that his master was here,
And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
But I do know one thing…
I know my Master is there and that is enough.’

I am privileged to participate in the production of a daily Bible reading program called Join the Journey. This year we have been journeying through the Old Testament historical books. It has been a great experience.
I encourage you to check out the webpage and perhaps sign up to receive the daily emails.
In the past I have posted a video from the project in which I introduced the book of Exodus. In the video below you will hear my friend JoAnn Hummel introduce the book of Joshua.
Mom’s Stationwagons
There has been lots of talk this week about Mom’s old stationwagons. When we kids were young she always drove a stationwagon and used it to haul around a bunch of kids. Mom defied the laws of physics when it came to packing kids into the stationwagon. I have heard stories of her pulling into the Patterson Heights Baptist Church and seventeen kids getting out and going into Vacation Bible School. Personally, I always thought Mom should have gotten a job in the circus packing clowns into a car.
On the day of my mother’s death a friend of my sister’s called and told sis that “If they have stationwagon’s in Heaven, your mom is driving one around picking up kids to take to Vacation Bible School.”
I remember those old stationwagons well. Only one of them was ever bought new. Dad always bought one that had been wrecked and then totaled out by the insurance company and rebuilt it. The light beige one that was actually bought new was bought without an airconditioner. That was back in the days when an air conditioner was considered a luxury, and my folk didn’t believe in luxuries. That made for a memorable childhood trip across the desert on the way to California.
Although air conditioning is no long considered a luxury, there are still lots of folk driving around without it because their car’s A/C has gone out and someone wants a fortune to fix it. If that describes you, you might want to check out Discount AC Parts.com. They have a complete line of ac compressors for all auto models, and all of their compressors come with a full warranty and free shipping. Whether in need of a Volkswagen ac compressor or a Mercedes AC compressor, they probably have what you are looking for.
What does a healthy, wholesome relationship with children look like?
I have been reading a little book called 77 Irrefutable Truths of Parenting, by Larry Keefauver. His rule #1 is:
Children require taking notice, talking, truth, trust, togetherness, touch, thanksgiving, time, teaching, Trinity.
In the explication of his rule that follows, he makes the following statement:
We confuse taking our children places and involving them in extra-curricula activities with involved parenting. Yes, part of parenting is going with them to their activities. But parenting is about relationship not just running around with children. What does a healthy, wholesome relationship with children look like?
What do you think? What does a healthy, wholesome relationship with children look like?
Steering In A New Direction

“Dad, do you remember what vehicle you used to teach me to drive.”
“No.”
“It was an old red truck with manual transmission and the gear shift was on the steering column. You taught me to drive it when I was eleven out in the horse pasture.”
That was one of the conversations that Dad and I had yesterday as we reminisced about by-gone years. I remember that old faded truck well, including how difficult it was to steer without power steering. If you need steering parts for your vehicle you might want to check out the folk at Power Steering Pros. They have all the power steering rack parts you need and offer a full warranty and free shipping.
What Do You Think?

Last week I asked for your thoughts on faith. This week I have a related question for you. Should faith in God be “blind” or should it require evidence?
