Picher Tornado Update
I previously asked for prayer for my friends in Picher. I placed several phone calls today and I was told that it looks like a battle zone. Six people lost their lives in the tornado, and everyone else lost their homes.
Baby Name Recommendations?

Here are the pictures from the sonogram. Our baby boy is due sometime on or around September 17.
Wanna help us pick out his name? We are taking suggestions.
Just a few ground rules. (1) No “J” names. (2) A boy named “Sue” might make for an interesting folk song, but it won’t work in the Stilley household.
Bonus points for coming up with a first name that might go with Kevin as a middle name. Kevin doesn’t work as a middle name, but if you can think of something that almost works we might consider it.
Go ahead, share your favorites.
Picher Tornado
Please pray for my friends in Picher, Oklahoma. It is my understanding that there are now nine confirmed fatalities in Picher and at least a dozen more in the surrounding areas.
My family was able to watch the tornado as it passed them by.
A state trooper working the scene says that the “the fire station is about the only thing left standing.” Read the story »
Locked In The Cabinet - Robert Reich
I enjoy reading political memoirs. One of my favorites is Robert Reich’s Locked in the Cabinet. In it, Reich humorously describes his time as Secretary of Labor during the Clinton administration. Humorous? Yes, in a “I laugh to keep from crying” kind of way.
What Is A Family?, by Edith Schaeffer
Many years ago while sitting around a campfire in the North Georgia mountains my fellow campers found out that I had not read the works of Francis Schaeffer and they were quick to point out my cultural illiteracy and intellectual impoverishment. I was embarrassed by my “ignorance” and committed to reading the works of this “20th century prophet.” Read the story »
Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston
Their Eyes Were Watching God. Zora Neale Hurston. (NY: HarperCollins, [2000 reprint]). 231 pages.
My first exposure to Zora Neale Hurston’s writing was her book Dust Tracks On A Road which I read as part of a PhD course on self-referential anthropology. I immediately fell in love with the unique and vivid way that Hurston uses language.
